The Facility Fee is one method of supplementing funds needed to maintain Marin Center’s aging facilities. The Facility Fee is restricted to supporting deferred and ongoing facility needs including maintenance and other renovations at the Marin Center. Since the facility fee program was established in 2015, several important maintenance projects have been completed with this funding, including:
- New carpeting in the Veterans’ Memorial Auditorium, new benches in the Bartolini Gallery, and new roof drains and new membrane roofing system in the Exhibit Hall building.
- Complete refurbishment of the Veterans’ Memorial Auditorium cooling tower which provides air conditioning to the building and installation of a water treatment system.
- Rewiring of the Fairgrounds with additional circuit breakers, lockable panel outlets, and other electrical safety measures to ensure operational capacity and worker safety.
- Retrofit of War Memorial Flag monument including new lighting with LED bulbs.
- Replacement of dry-rotted roof sheeting, installation new roof drains and new membrane roofing system in the Exhibit Hall building.
Revenues generated by Processing Fees are part of the Department of Cultural Services/Marin Center General Fund budget and are used for operational purposes. Revenues from rental of Marin Center facilities, Box Office Services and Processing Fees, equipment rental, concession percentages, merchandise vending percentages, filming permits offset only a portion of the expenses of operating Marin Center. The County of Marin subsidizes the department yearly in the amount of $1.6m.
All events at Marin Center are produced by rental clients. Marin Center/County of Marin does not produce or present any shows.
Rental clients/producers set the purchase price of tickets to their events, not Marin Center. The base ticket revenue for every ticket sold goes to the rental client/producer, not Marin Center.
It is the choice of the rental client/producer to include the Facility Fee and Processing Fee in the price of their ticket or have them listed separately. Most choose the latter.

Our non-profit, the Marin Cultural Association, advocates for and serves as a catalyst to increase participation, advance collaboration and optimize resources for culture in Marin County. Proceeds to the Marin Cultural Association help us with our mission to support arts and culture in Marin County and are used to underwrite programming, education and tickets for underserved youth and to upgrade our facilities.
Your donations also help make it possible for Marin County’s underserved students to participate in arts-integrated education programs. With ongoing support from our community, Marin Center offers more than 1,000 events each year, nurturing the arts in our community and creating a vibrant home for arts and culture.
Ticket sales cover only a portion of our costs. It is only with donor support that our non-profit organization is able to achieve its mission to enrich, educate, and entertain our North Bay community.
We are always looking for event ushers and volunteers. Volunteer ushers enhance Marin Center's customer service and help make sure the show goes on. Ushers perform many duties including taking tickets, handing out programs, showing patrons to their seats, and seating latecomers. Ushers are often able to see performances at which they work. Please contact Chris Haeuser for more information about joining our usher team.
